There is not a time or period that one can state for gaining a flat stomach. We are all made up differently with different weights, diets and body shapes. You can, if you stick to an exercise plan and diet expect to see physical changes after six to eight weeks later. This is as long as you stick religiously to your plan.

Will crunches and sit-ups lose stomach fat?

No. Doing 100 crunches or sit-ups a day will only strengthen your middle. It will not burn the layers of fat on your stomach. Many make the mistake of approaching losing stomach fat this way by 'stop toning' or 'spot training' a specific area. This is a myth for gaining a flat stomach. Sit-ups can also put additional strain on your lower back. It is not recommended to do sit-ups or some advanced crunch techniques if you have lower back pain.
